Last week the gold finches in our backyard inspired me to try my hand at painting some birds of a more realistic nature. With the gold finch being my favorite bird, it was only natural that I start there. I was so pleased with the results and those who know me know that I rarely stop at creating only one of something, so I went on to paint a purple finch and an Eastern bluebird. These were done by hand using watercolour and ink, as opposed to using my tablet, although I am tempted to reproduce them digitally.

After spending time producing realistic looking birds, I was itching to create something more whimsical. I painted some fancy, colourful animals and added some quotes and think that they would make great prints and/or greeting cards.

This burst of creativity comes after a relatively dry spell as my craft room was in shambles while I was reorganizing my home in preparation for Rowan's arrival. The nursery is coming together quite nicely - it's previous furniture relegated to other areas of the house - and with the progress we made I was able to focus on reorganizing the craft room. It still needs a bit of work, but there is ample surface space for my daughter and I to create, and ample floor space for the cats to stretch out while we're in there. It has become quite the little social gathering spot which pleases me to no end.
